The almighty Rusko never ceases to entertain. Some of you might remember last March when Rusko called his then-label, Mad Decent, "f*cking useless numbskulls" after his album, Songs, was released without his approval.
Yesterday, it was reported that Rusko will be releasing his upcoming EP, Kapow, for free. Rusko said,
"The natural thing for me to do is release KAPOW myself. How I want. The way I want and at the speed I want. It’s about promotion and not profit – I want to give the fans the music in real time. If they can help me promote it too then it’s essentially what a label does anyway but just without copyright restrictions. The fans are key in the success of KAPOW. If you like it, send it to a friend. I just want everyone to be able have my music if they want it."
Now, it appears the artist is turning the move into trend, as he is reportedly planning to release all of his future albums for free. Rusko's spokesman issued a statement on the subject:
"He finished his deal [with Mad Decent] and rather than renew it, or find another label, he's decided to self-release for free to fans with the aim of getting his music out there widely to the max amount of people in the easiest way possible."
Kapow will be the first of Rusko's albums that will not be released through Diplo's Mad Decent record label. It is due out on iTunes November 6th, 2012, but will be available directly from Rusko on November 4th. Rusko's popular new single, "Like This", will be included.
